Grease

Industrial greases are mainly used to separate contacting parts, reduce mechanical wear, friction and noise, and prevent seizure and contact corrosion (fretting). Industrial greases are also used to prevent overheating by reducing the coefficient of friction, aid in assembly and enhance sealing. They contain corrosion inhibitors for additional protection. Industrial lubricants are compatible with plastics and prevent electrical arcing.

Industrial greases are formulated using base oils of all kinds: mineral oils, food-grade Vaseline oils, polyalphaolefin (PAO) oils, silicone oils, ester or di-ester oils, fluorosilicone oils, perfluoropolyether (PFPE) oils, and polyalkylene glycol (PAG) oils.

Soaps and thickeners are used to give greases various properties. Lithium grease, lithium-complex grease, calcium grease, calcium-complex grease, aluminum-complex grease and bentone grease are some examples.
