has developed a range of Smart Lubrication™ products specifically for automotive applications. In this article, we will focus on the products used for the lubrication of locks, latches and levers (control lever, locking lever, steering lever, blocking lever…).

In order to provide the optimal functioning of these systems: closing mechanism of the door, maintaining the door in case of collision and allowing the opening of the door in any condition, a lubrication adapted to the requirements is essential.

Standard products used

Molykote^® 3400A LF,, is an anti-friction coating for medium speed metal/metal combinations under high loads. Used for the lubrication of mechanical connections: moving parts of locks. Based on MoS2 and heat curing (30 min at 200°C), it offers excellent protection against corrosion as well as very good adhesion to metal. Wide temperature range: -200°C to +430°C.

Molykote^® BR2 Plus is a heavy duty grease (3600 N) based on MoS2 which provides long term lubrication, good protection against scratching, corrosion and fretting. Temperature range: -30°C to +130°C

Additional requirements

Low friction

Molykote^® D-708 is an anti-friction coating for plastic/metal and metal/metal combinations under low loads. Widely used for the lubrication of door and lock mechanisms. Solid lubricant based on PTFE (Teflon), heat curing (20 min at 200°C). Wide temperature range: -180°C to +240°C

Corrosion resistance

Wear resistance

Molykote^® D-7409 is an anti-friction coating for metal/metal combinations at medium and high speeds (15 800 N). Applied on magnetic contactors of car starters as well as on locks and hinges. Solid MoS2 based heat curing lubricant (30 min at 220°C). Prevents fretting corrosion and is resistant to oils, greases, solvents and many chemicals. Wide temperature range: -70°C to +300°C.

High load capacity

Molykote^® 106 is an anti-friction coating for metal/metal combinations under high loads (4,000 N) or oscillating movements and where the risk of soiling is too high. Used for the lubrication of locks and hinges. MoS2-based dry sliding varnish, heat-curing (120 min at 200°C). Low coefficient of friction and wide temperature range: -180°C to +240°C.

Water resistant

Molykote^® PG-75 is a semi-synthetic grease for lubricating plastic/plastic and plastic/metal combinations. Long-lasting lubrication, very low coefficient of friction. Temperature range: -40°C to + 130°C.
