KRYTOX – Oxygen Lubricants: The BAM and AirLiquide Approved Range of Greases and Oils for Oxygen Contact
Samaro, in partnership with Chemours™, presents the BAM and AirLiquide approved range of Krytox® lubricants. Among them, we highlight the Krytox® NRT and Krytox® GPL 226 products, which are formulated with fluorocarbon-based (PFPE) molecules. These lubricants offer an effective solution to prevent explosion risks resulting from the contact of oxygen (in liquid or gaseous state) with hydrocarbon molecules present in traditional lubricants.
While the entire range of Krytox® products is compatible with “oxygen” contact, only the Krytox® NRT range and the GPL 226 reference have successfully passed the BAM (oxygen contact) and AirLiquide certifications, which are benchmarks in this specific field of application.
Advantages of Krytox® Lubricants
Krytox® lubricants offer several technical advantages that make them a preferred choice for demanding environments. Here are the main benefits of these lubricants:
- Extreme thermal stability: Krytox® lubricants can be used in temperature ranges from -75 °C up to 350 °C, and even up to 400 °C with suitable metals. This thermal stability ensures optimal performance in extreme conditions.
- Extended equipment lifespan: Krytox® lubricants contribute to prolonging the lifespan of equipment by reducing friction, wear, and corrosion. This results in fewer warranty repairs and reduced replacement costs.
- Reduced downtime and maintenance costs: Krytox® lubricants provide exceptional resistance, leading to a significant reduction in equipment failures and maintenance operations. This translates into reduced costly downtime and maintenance expenses, resulting in increased profits.
- Oxygen-specific properties: Krytox® lubricants are well-suited for applications in contact with liquid or gaseous oxygen. They are odorless, colorless, inert, non-toxic, and non-flammable, providing maximum safety in sensitive environments.
Applications of Krytox® Lubricants in Oxygen Contact
Krytox® GPL-226 and Krytox® NRT lubricants are recognized for their use in various applications requiring contact with oxygen. Here are some examples:
- Oxygen masks: Krytox® lubricants ensure smooth and reliable operation of valves and mechanisms in oxygen masks, ensuring efficient oxygen administration.
- Diving cylinders: Krytox® lubricants are used to lubricate the valves and seals of diving cylinders, ensuring optimal sealing and safe operation.
- Oxy-cutting systems: Krytox® lubricants are employed in oxy-cutting systems to lubricate valves and mechanisms, allowing for increased precision and efficiency during oxygen cutting.
- Oxygen valves: Krytox® lubricants are used for lubricating oxygen valves, ensuring smooth operation, efficient sealing, and minimizing the risk of contamination.
- Cryogenic applications: Krytox® lubricants are suitable for cryogenic environments and can be used in applications such as liquid oxygen storage systems, cryogenic tanks, and cooling equipment, providing reliable and stable lubrication at extremely low temperatures.
- Liquid oxygen pumps: Krytox® lubricants are used in pumps used for handling liquid oxygen, ensuring durable and secure lubrication of mechanisms while minimizing the risk of explosions.
These examples of applications demonstrate the versatility of Krytox® GPL-226 and Krytox® NRT lubricants in environments where contact with liquid or gaseous oxygen is essential, ensuring reliable performance and optimal safety.
